German Shorthaired Pointers

My husband and I have lived with German Shorthaired Pointers for over forty years. I was initially drawn to the breed because of the beauty of their form and their energy level. Over the years, there has been an ever-changing cast of characters. Our first was Gretel, who will always hold the most special position on the line-up. Because she was perfect in every way, she was a very hard act to follow. But Max, a rescue, picked up where she left off and managed to make me laugh every single day. Then came Bonnie, our "special needs" girl, who trusted in us to show her that life could be fun and happy. Buddy, who was abandoned, managed to find his way to us. He was everyone's friend and found great pleasure in entertaining anyone who would watch him perform. He was so eager to learn and training him was not only satisfying for me, but his "abilities" landed him on TV on the Animal Planet show, "Breed All About It--- German Shorthaired Pointers" . Holly then found her way to us and with her came a most beautiful, gentle soul. Because she always seemed to be a "painting just waiting to happen", she was my subject many times. I wasn't the only person who thought her beauty should be captured because the Danbury Mint chose her headstudy to be featured on one of their limited edition plates commemorating that breed. Our latest is Gidget who has brought us an energy that we had missed with our older dogs. She has stepped right up to being another favorite subject of mine. Portraits of her have won awards at the National Juried fine arts competition dedicated to canine art, "Art Show At the Dog Show," in 2011 and 2013. To keep Gidget company after losing Buddy, Windsor came to live with us. The handsome structure of his head and body has inspired me to paint him in many different poses. Since we lost our Gidget in 2022 we were fortunate to bring Didi into our family to fill the void. She is beautiful and her easy going nature fits perfectly into our household.

German Shorthaired Pointers hold a special place in my life. They keep my life full of beauty, companionship, energy, and love and have been responsible for introducing us to many treasured friends--
both human and canine varieties.
